Herbs and plants are the basis of many modern medicines, and have always played an important role in the natural healing practices of many cultures. Lamentably, human civilization is destroying the woodlands and rainforests of earth at an alarming rate, before the vast majority of medicinal herbs, roots, flowers and barks are discovered and catalogued, and even more regrettably, before we can discover for which ailments they might provide a cure.
A Witch's knowledge of herbalism takes on the aspect of being able to tap into the herb's unseen energy. Herbal magick is called Wortcunning. Witches say that a herb is "ruled" by a specific planet or element because the light or energy that is present in that plant corresponds to the energy of that planet or element. Apart from their medicinal uses, many herbs are also thought to have magickal properties, for example, St John's Wort is used to repel evil spirits.

Wiccans believe that herbs and plants to be used in potions or spells should be gathered at the appropriate time, for the maximum results.
We then charge the herbs to the specific purpose we intend them for. Charging herbs increases their power.

The following are just a few of the herbs that hold magick and power for Wiccans:

Cinnamon: Used in spells and rituals to attract riches.
Carrots: Said to be useful in curing impotence and increasing the libido.
Catmint, or Catnip: Used to treat stomach upsets and nausea.
Cinquefoil: Symbolizes the pentagram.
Fennel: The seeds of fennel boiled in milk and taken internally cures indigestion.
Mistletoe: Called Heal-All by Druids. It brings health, wealth and power.
Mustard seeds: Used to attract money in the home or at work.
Patchouli: Used as a perfume potion. Brings love and protection.
Vervain: Heightens psychic powers. Vervain tea slows excessive bleeding .
Herbalism has always played an important part in Wicca. Natural healing is often preferable to healing with conventional medicine to many Wiccans. Should you require natural healing, I have included a short list of associations for you to contact to get in touch with reputable natural healers.
